Calvin Johnson Broke The NFL Record For Receiving Yards In A Season

Calvin Johnson broke the record in Week 16 for receiving yards in a season. Johnson had 1964 receiving yards in this season, 116 more than Jerry Rice had in 1995. Johnson also was also tied for 4th most receptions in a season. He had 122 receptions exactly has many as Jerry Rice in 1995. Despite the great season he only had 5 touchdowns on the year. From Week 9-16 he had 100 or more receiving yards each week during that span. On the season he also averaged 16.4 yards per reception. He earned his 3rd straight Pro-Bowl this season. He should also probably make his 3rd straight All-Pro Team. This is his 2nd straight year leading the NFL in receiving yards. Despite his great season he only helped the Lions win 4 games after making the playoffs last season. If Calvin Johnson keeps up this pace through his first 6 years he could break Rice's career receiving records. Through 6 seasons Johnson has 488 receptions, 7836 receiving yards and 54 receiving touchdowns. He has also gone over 1000 receiving yards in 4 of the first 6 seasons. It will be fun to see how Johnson follows up this record breaking season.
