Possible Expansions for MLB for the 2012 Season

10 Team Playoff Possibility:  MLB Commissioner Bud Selig said on Thursday that "he expects the MLB Playoffs to expand to 10 teams starting in the 2012." This would up the playoffs team from 8 to 10 and add an additional wild card team for each league. The 3 division teams would get byes and the 2 wild cards would probably play a best of 3 series to advance to the League Division Series. There is many questions about this. First how would the series play out, 3 or 5 games. If this those happen 3 teams would get byes and then those players could get cold and it is very hard to turn it on in baseball. Second could the 3rd place team in a division get the 2nd wild card or would the team have to be a 2nd place team from a second division. Last how would tiebreakers work, if 3 teams are tied for 2 spots how do we eliminate 1 team. I think 12 teams work better there is a problems with this. If allow only the top 2 teams from each division we won't have tiebreaker problems. Byes will still a have factor with the teams with byes. Also would we allow a 3rd place team to make with format.
Instant Replays Additions: Also on Thursday AP source said MLB is leaning to expand instant replays to include trapped balls and fair or foul down the line. This would be nice after many bad calls the last few years on these things. One problem to figure out is can Mangers challenge plays if so how many and what is the limit. Do the umpires still pause the game and go look at it or is there someone who looks at in a booth and calls downs to the umpires. out-or-safe calls on the bases and ball-or-strike decisions wouldn't be included. Balls and strike should be reviewed because it would take way to long. I think that out-or-safe calls on the bases should be included. Then when do you allow these replay uses. I think only in game changing plays, but then define game changing. Game changing under 5 runs, 3 runs, 1 run, after the 5th after the 7th, only in the 9th. Another things MLB will after to figure out.

Kevin Love wins 2010-11 NBA Most Improved Player Award

It was announced today that Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves won the2010-11 NBA Most Improved Player Award. Kevin Love got 66 out of 116 first place votes. He beat out LaMarcus Aldridge who came in 2nd and Derrick Rose who came in 4th. I think Derrick Rose probably should have won it, then Kevin Love in 2nd, but Kevin Love is also a great pick. Kevin Love averaged 20.2 points per game (18th in NBA) and 15.2 rebounds per game (1st in NBA). LaMarcus Aldridge averaged 21.8 points per game (14th in NBA) and 8.8 rebounds per game (14th in NBA). Kevin Love and LaMarcus Aldridge both will keep getting better and both will be very good forwards in the future.

Lamor Odom wins 2010-11 NBA Sixth Man Of The Year Award

It was announced today that Lamar Odom won the NBA Sixth Man Of The Year Award. Lamar Odom received 96 out of 117 first place votes. Jason Terry came in 2nd and Thaddeus Young in 3rd. I would have probably picked Odom but Jason Terry and points per game and assist per game. Jason Terry did win the award 2 years ago. Odom averaged 14.4 PPG, 8.7 RPG and 3.0 APG. Jason Terry 15.8 PPG, 1.8 RPG and 4.1 APG. Jason Terry has competed this win this the last 3 years. I still think Lamar Odom has helped the Lakers a lot this year and he probably deserved this award.

Dwight Howard wins NBA Defensive Player Of The Year Award Again

It was announced today that Dwight Howard from the Orlando Magic won the NBA Defensive Player Of The Year Award for the 3rd straight year. He was the first player to win this award 3 straight years. Howard got 114 of 120 first place votes. This was not much of a contest, Dwight has been dominate the past 3 years. I guess that Kevin Garnett or Josh Smith could have won it but it wasn't close. Kevin Garnett came in 2nd and Tyson Chandler came in 3rd. Howard averaged 22.9 PPG (11th in NBA), 14.1 RPG (2nd in NBA) and 2.4 BPG (2nd in NBA) Last year, Howard got 110 of 122 first place votes averaging 18.3 PPG (25th in NBA), 13.2 RPG (1st in NBA) and 2.8 BPG (1st in NBA). In 2008-09 got 105 of 119 first place votes averaging 20.6 PPG (18th in NBA), 13.8 RPG (1st in NBA) and 2.9 BPG (1st in NBA). Howard will probably continue to win it until someone steps up to win it. Howard can tie Ben Wallace and Dikembe Mutombo with 4 NBA Defensive Player Of Then Year Awards for most all-time next year.
