Philip Humber Throws 21st Perfect Game In MLB History

On Saturday, Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox throws 21st perfect game in MLB history. He set down all 27 Mariners batters winning the game 4-0. It is the first perfect game since Roy Halladay did vs. the Marlins on May 29, 2010. It is the first no-hitter since Ervin Santana of the Angels had a no-hitter vs. the Indians on July 27, 2011. He joins Charlie Robertson in 1922 and Mark Buehrle in 2009 for Chicago White Sox who have pitched a perfect game. It is also the 18th no-hitter for the White Sox tied with the Red Sox for 2nd most all-time. It is also only the 7th perfect game on the road. In the game Humber recorded 9 strikeouts, 13 flyouts and 5 groundouts. Humber threw only 96 pitches, making this the first perfect game thrown in under 100 pitches since Dave Cone in 1999. Humber only started 29 Major League games before throwing his perfect game, making him have the third fewest starts before throwing a perfect game only behind Charlie Robertson and Lee Richmond. Also Humber only won 11 Major League games before throwing his perfect game, making him have the second fewest all-time only behind Charlie Robertson. Humber struck out the side in the 2nd inning while he threw just 45 pitches in the first 4 innings. He also only had two 3 balls counts during the entire game. Who would have guessed that this guy would have pitched a perfect game. This what is so fun about baseball you never know what will happen on any given day.
