Felix Hernandez Throws 23rd Perfect Game In MLB History

On Wednesday, Felix Hernandez of the Seattle Mariners threw the 23rd perfect game in MLB history. He set down all 27 Ray batters winning the game 1-0. It was the first perfect game since Matt Cain on June 13th. It is also the third of the season with Philip Humber and who pitched a perfect game on April 21st. His perfect was also the 278th no-hitter in MLB history. This is the Mariners' first perfect game in team history and first no-hitter for the Mariners since the combined no-hitter on June 8th. Seattle's previous individual no-hitter came when Chris Bosio no-hit Boston on April 22, 1993. Tampa Bay was no-hit for the fifth time in franchise history. This is the first season in MLB history to have 3 perfect games. In the game Felix Hernandez threw 113 pitches. He recorded 12 strikeouts, 8 groundouts and 7 flyouts. This is the 6th no-hitter of the season which is tied for 4th most all-time with the 1969, 1908 and 1917 seasons. Only the 1990, 1991 and 1884 season has more. In 1990 and 1991 there were seven and in 1884 there were a record of 8. Felix Hernandez won the AL Cy Young Award in 2010 was the owner of a one-hitter and four two-hitters. With the perfect game he is also improving his chance of winning the Cy Young award this year. He now has 11 wins which is tied for 10th in the AL, he is 2nd in the AL with 174 strikeouts and is tied for 4th in ERA at 2.60. He also is 4th in the AL with a 1.04 WHIP and leads the AL in innings pitched with 180 innings. Felix Hernandez has been of the the best AL pitchers since 2009 and I could easily see him pitching another no-hitter in his career.

Dwight Howard Traded to the Los Angeles Lakers

Dwight Howard was finally traded to Los Angeles Lakers in a foue team trade. The four teams were the Lakers, Magic, 76ers and Nuggets. Originally Dwight Howard wanted to be traded in February at the NBA trade deadline. He wasn't traded and then was set to opt out of his contract with his player option for next season. He ended opting in to his player option to play for the Magic next season even though he expressed to be traded. On Thursday he the Magic finally traded Dwight Howard. Lakers acquired Dwight Howard, Chris Duhon and Earl Clark. The Magic got Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic, Moe Harkless, Josh McRoberts, Christan Eyenga. The Magic also will receive a protected first-round pick from each of the other three teams and five overall draft picks. I think that Magic plan is probably to become the one of the worst teams in the NBA and rebuild through the draft. The Denver Nuggets got Andre Iguodala from the 76ers. He will probably play shooting guard instead of small forward. He will help the Nuggets improve slightly and he probably makes the Nuggets one of the top five teams in the West Conference. The Philadelphia 76ers got Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson. Bynum will help the 76ers a lot inside which is what they needed a lot last season and help improve and take pressure off their perimeter players. The Lakers came out the big winners in this trade. They got Dwight Howard and didn't have to trade Pau Gasol. Now the Lakers have Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol. I think the Lakers now will probably win the West Conference over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Oklahoma City will be hard to beat but if all four of the main players are healthy they can probably beat the Thunder. I still think the Heat are a better teams with signing Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis in free agent. If the Heat and the Lakers were to meet in the 2013 NBA Finals it would be a very good and entertaining series.
