Recap of the 2012 World Series: San Francisco Giants are the 2012 World Series Champions

The San Francisco Giants won the World Series 4 games to 0 beating the Detroit Tigers. They became the first NL team to sweep the World Series since the 1990 Cincinnati Reds who swept the Oakland A's. This is the Giants' 7th World Series Title in team history and 2nd in the last 3 seasons. The Giants last won the World Series in 2010 when they beat the Texas Rangers in 5 games. Pablo Sandoval won the World Series MVP Award. He hit 8 for 16 during the World Series. In Game 1 he became the 3rd player ever to hit 3 home runs in a World Series. He joined Albert Pujols who did it in Game 3 of the 2011 World Series, Reggie Jackson who did it in Game 6 of the 1977 World Series and Babe Ruth who did it twice. Ruth did it in Game 4 of the 1926 World Series and Game 4 of the 1928 World Series. The Detroit Tigers had the third worst batting average for a team in the World Series at .159. The only teams that were worst are the 1966 Dodgers at .142 and the 1969 Orioles at .146. The series was also the first World Series since the 1954 World Series to have both league's batting title winners. The Giants have a shot a repeating as World Series Champions but I think it is quite unlikely. I'm not even sure they will win their division next season with how much talent the Los Angeles Dodgers have. Also the NL as a whole is very strong. The Nationals, Braves and Phillies from the NL East should all be good next season. The Cardinals and Reds will be good next year out of the NL Central. The Dodgers are the best team in the NL West next season in my opinion. On the other hand I think the Tigers have a great chance to make it back to the World Series next year. They should easily win the AL Central. They just have to watch out for the Angels, Rangers and Yankees I think. The Yankees are almost always good, the Rangers won the AL Pennant in 2010 and 2011 and the Angels will be hungry next season after completely missing the postseason this year. With Cabrera, Fielder and Verlander right now I think the Tigers are favorites to win the AL next year. I think the Giants are a very solid team going forward, I just think that they are more likely to win a Wild Card and lose early in the playoffs next season.
