Chipper Jones is Retiring After 19 Seasons

Chipper Jones said in March he would retire at the end of this season. Even though is last game was the NL Wild Card Playoff Game, the season didn't end until Sunday when the World Series ended. Chipper Jones is one of the top 5 third basemen of all-time in my opinion. He played 19 seasons all with the Atlanta Braves. He made his debut on September 11th, 1993 and is finally game was the  NL Wild Card Playoff Game on October 5th. During his career he was a .303 career batting average. He has the most career RBIs for a third baseman. In his career he had 1623 RBIs which puts him at 31st most all-time. He also had 2727 hits, 468 HRs, 569 doubles and 1619 runs scored in his career. He ranks 57th all-time in hits, 32nd in HRs all-time, 26th all-time in doubles and 45th all-time in runs scored. Also he is the only switch hitter in MLB history to have a .300+ career batting average and 400+ HRs. He currently holds the Braves team record for career on-base percentage at .402 which is also 56th best all-time. For awards he was 8-time All-Star, 2-time Silver Sluggers awards, 1-time NL MVP and 1-time NL Batting Title Champion. For a player of his skill those are low but he is still great. He was an All-Star from 1996-1998, 2000, 2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012. His two Silver Sluggers came in 1999 and 2000. In 1999 he also won the NL MVP. He won the NL Batting Title in 2008. He was a great help in the success the Braves had during the 1990s and early 2000s. He helped the Braves win 11th straight NL East Titles from 1995-2005. He also helped them win one World Series in 1995 and win the NL Pennant in 1995, 1996 and 1999. He also helped the Braves win the NL Wild Card twice in his career. Once in 2010 and and the other time in 2012. To cap it all off he started his career as the #1 pick in the 1990 MLB Draft. He picked a good time to retire in my opinion he turned 40 this past April. Chipper Jones is one of the best MLB third baseman of all-time and should make the Hall of Fame on the first ballot in 5 years.
