Recap of the 2011 World Series: St. Louis Cardinals are the 2011 World Series Champions

The St. Louis Cardinals won Game 7 of the World Series to win the 2011 World Series. The final score was 6 to 2. This was the Cardinals 11th World Series Title in team history. David Freese was MVP of the series for the Cardinals. He hit .348 (8 for 23) with 1 HR and 7 R.B.I.s. Freese became the 6th player to win LCS MVP and World Series MVP in the same year. Game 6 was the first extra inning game in the World Series since 2005. The Cardinals in that game became the first team ever to come back from down 2 runs or more in the 9th inning or later twice in World Series history. They were down 5-7 in the 9th and down 7-9 in the 10th and came back each time. They won the game on a walk-off home run by Freese. Also this was the first World Series to go to 7 games since 2002 when the Angels beat the Giants. Freese also set a MLB Postseason record with 21 R.B.I.s. Albert Pujols had a OK series batting .240 (6 for 25) with 3 HRs and 6  R.B.I.s. Pujols tied a World Series record with 3 HRs in a game. Albert Pujols now has two World Series rings in 3 tries, winning in 2006 and 2011 and losing in 2004. Albert Pujols is a free agent now by since they won I can't imagine him leaving the Cardinals to go to a different team. Albert would probably want to beat Alex Rodrigez's 10 year, 275 million dollar contract with a 10 year 300 million dollar. I think though the Cardinals will be smart and sign him to a 8 or 9 year deal worth about 224 to 261 million which is between 28 and 29 million a year which is more than Rodrigez per year but not over all. That way his contract expires when he is 39 or 40 and not 41 going on 42. Cardinals are very good team I assume if Pujols resigns and since they get Adam Wainwright back, with Chris Carpenter they could easily win the NL Central definitely if Prince Fielder leaves the Brewers. They might not be the best NL team because they Phillies will still have at least 3 of the 4 pitching aces still on their team and a great offense, but they are the 2nd best team in the NL if not. Tony LaRussa has won 3 World Series Championships as a manger one with the A's in 1989 and 2 with the Cardinals in 2006 and 2011. He is now tied for 6th most World Series Championships with 3 other mangers. Also next season LaRussa should pass John McGraw for 2nd most manger wins all time, he is only 35 behind McGraw.
The Texas Rangers lost again in the World Series last year losing to the Giants in 5 games. I guessing right now they can win the weak AL West next year again, but to make a 3-peat to the World Series will be very hard. They are still a good team that will compete in the AL.
