Stephen Curry Broke The NBA Single Season Three Point Record

Stephen Curry broke the NBA single season record for three pointer made. Curry broke the record on Wednesday on the last day of the regular season vs. the Trail Blazers. Curry made 272 three pointers this season. Ray Allen had the record before Curry with 269 threes in 2005-06. Curry needed just one three pointer to tie the record and made 4 in the the final game of the regular season to break by the record held by Allen by 3 threes. Curry also ended the season in 10th in most three point attempt in a season. George McCloud holds the record at 678 in 1995-96. Allen is 2nd in attempts at 653. Curry also had a much better percent than Allen. Curry shot 45.3% compared to Allen who shot just 41.2% in 2005-06. Curry also had the best season of his young career. He averaged a career high with 22.9 PPG which was 7th in the NBA. He also averaged a career high with 6.9 APG which was tied for 14th in the NBA. This is a great season since Curry missed a lot of last season with injuries and only played 26 games last year. He was snubbed of his 1st of his first All-Star game this season but should definitely make it next season. He also made a very strong case to win the NBA Most Improved Player of the Year award. Curry is one of the best young players in the NBA. For awards so far in his career he has only won a gold medal in the FIBA World Championship in 2010 and was All-Rookie 1st team in 2010. It will be fun to see how Curry builds upon this great season next year as well. It will be fun seeing him in the playoffs for the first time also. He helped the Warriors win 47 games this season and earned the #6 seed in the Western Conference. If Curry keeps going at this pace he could break Allen's career three point record. Through 4 seasons Curry has 644 three pointers made. Allen had just 497 three pointers made through 4 seasons, 147 less than Curry.

Louisville Cardinals are the 2013 NCAA Basketball National Champions

The Louisville Cardinals beat the Michigan Wolverines 82 to 76 to claim the 2013 National Basketball Championship. The game was a tail of two halves. Michigan was very dominate in the first half but Louisville fought back to ultimately win the game. For the first 4 and a half minutes it was a very close game but then Michigan toke control. It was still pretty close with 10 minutes left in the 1st half when Michigan led 20 to 17. Michigan then went on a big run to take a 33 to 21 lead with 4 minutes left in the half. Louisville did go on an outstanding 14 to 3 run to end the half led by Luke Hancock who had 4 threes. At halftime Michigan led 38 to 37. Louisville got a two point lead at 49 to 47 with 14 minutes left in the game and was in the lead most of the rest of the game. Louisville could only grow their lead to 5. With 6:27 left, Louisville had a 67 to 62 lead. Louisville did extend their lead to 8 with 4:13 left in the game and again at 1:52 left. Michigan fought back in it and cut it to 4 points. At 1:20 left Louisville only led 78 to 74. Louisville hit their free throws and won the game by 6 points, 82 to 76. Louisville won their 3rd National Title in school history and first since 1986. They set a school record for wins going 35-5 on the season. Luke Hancock won the Final Four Most Outstanding Player. He played well in the regionals but he dominated in the Final Four and help lead Louisville to the National Title. He scored 22 points and had 3 assists and 2 steals in the Championship game. In the Final Four he averaged 21.0 PPG, 2.5 RPG, and 2.0 SPG. The other four All-Final Four players were Peyton Siva and Chane Behanan from Louisville, Spike Albrecht, Mitch McGary and Trey Burke from Michigan and Cleanthony Early from Wichita State. Siva averaged 12.5 PPG, 4.0 APG, and 3.0 SPG in the Final Four. Behanan averaged 12.5 PPG, 10.5 RPG, and 1.0 SPG in the Final Four. Albrecht averaged 11.5 PPG in the Final Four and had a huge 17 points off the bench in the National Championship game. McGary averaged 8.0 PPG, 9.0 RPG, and 3.5 APG in the Final Four as well as a double-double in the National Semifinal. Burke averaged 15.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 3.5 APG in the Final Four. Early averaged 24.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG in the Final Four. He had a huge game vs. Louisville in the National Semifinal. Both teams next year should be good and might be able to contend for the National Title if they restock right. For Louisville the will probably lose some players to the NBA Draft. Louisville should still be the best team in the Big East in their final season as a Big East member before moving to the ACC in 2014. For Michigan they probably will lose some or most of their top talent to the NBA Draft. I don't think Michigan will be great next year but they will probably still be solid. The Big Ten is very tough with Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan State and  Wisconsin. Even this year they finished 5th in the Big Ten. I think Louisville has a small chance to repeat as champs. I think it will be very tough with many players graduating and going to the NBA but they do have a good recruiting class coming in. 

Preview of the 2013 NCAA Basketball Championship Game: Louisville Cardinals vs. Michigan Wolverines

In the 2013 NCAA Basketball Championship Game the Louisville Cardinals will face the Michigan Wolverines. Louisville had some problem in their semi-final but they beat Wichita State 72 to 68. Michigan had some trouble with Syracuse as well in their semi-final but they won 61 to 56. This is Louisville's 3rd National Championship Game and they are looking to win their 3rd National Championship in school history. This is Michigan's 6th National Championship Game and they are looking to win their 2nd National Championship in school history.  
Preview: Both of the teams have great guards. Russ Smith and Peyton Siva from Louisville have played great. Smith is averaging 25.0 PPG and 3.0 SPG in the NCAA Tournament. Siva is averaging 8.6 PPG, 4.6 APG and 2.0 APG in the NCAA Tournament. Trey Burke is the Player of the Year from Michigan. He is averaging 13.8 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 5.0 APG and 1.8 SPG in the NCAA Tournament. The battle between Gurgoui Dieng and Mitch McGary will be very intesting to watch. This also has many future NBA players in it. I would guess that there are at least 3 and maybe as many as 6. Kentucky and Kansas both some what similar stats with Louisville dominate in rebounding and Michigan dominate in shooting percentage. Louisville averages 73.6 PPG and Michigan averages 75.2 PPG.  Louisville averages 37.5 RPG and Michigan averages 35.1 RPG. Louisville averages 15.0 APG and Michigan averages 14.3 APG. Louisville shoots 44.5% and Michigan shoots 48.4%. Louisville also had been winning by more in the Tournament than Michigan. Louisville has won by an average of 18.2 PPG and Michigan only 13.4 PPG.

Prediction: I believe with Russ Smith and Peyton Siva they will be too much for Trey Burke and Michigan. I expect Russ Smith to have his 6th straight 20 point game. I also thing Dieng will harass McGary in the post and limit McGary compared to what he has been doing. With Louisville's pressure defense Michigan will have to shoot lights out and I don't think that can happen in this game. Louisville will also should be able to get to the rim at will vs. Michigan's weak interior defense. I expect the game to be close but Louisville should be in control most of the game. I believe that Louisville has experience with play in the Final Four last year and better defense and rebounding to lose this game. Even with Trey Burke, Syracuse showed he can be controlled. I think Louisville wins the game and claims their 3rd National Title in school history and first since 1986. As well they will bring home the National Title for Kevin Ware. 

Final Score: Louisville 73, Michigan 67.
