2012 BCS Rankings Update: Week 9

The second BCS rankings came out Sunday. This ranking is important because it decides which if a school makes a BCS bowl game or not and which two schools goes to the BCS National Title Game. I don't really like the BCS because it doesn't give every team a chance to compete for a National Title. There will be a 4 team playoff in starting in the 2014 season which is a start. I would prefer a 16 team playoff, that way if you lose you can still compete for the National Title. This week must things stayed the same. Nine out of the top ten teams are the same. There is one less undefeated team left after Cincinnati lost now there are 11 teams that haven't loss. No madder how good Ohio State is this year they will not appear in the BCS rankings due to their postseason ban for this season.
1. Alabama Crimson Tide 7-0 (4-0)
Next Game: vs. Mississippi State.
Last Game:
@ Tennessee, W 44-13.

Last Week Rank: 1st
Projected BCS Bowl: BCS Title / Sugar
More Information: Just like last year Alabama's defense is great. They lead the nation at 8.3 PPG allowed on defense. AJ McCarron also has been very solid. He has almost 1500 passing yards, 16 TDs and 0 INTs. This week they start a stretch of 3 ranked teams in a row. They have to play #11 Mississippi State this week which will be a stuff.  There biggest game left is at #6 LSU in 2 weeks. They have had a great schedule but they have been the best team in the nation. The last six National Champions have been from the SEC so if they go undefeated or even maybe if they lose once they should see themselves in the BCS Title Game. My Rank: 1st
 2. Florida Gators 7-0 (6-0)
Next Game: vs. Georgia.
Last Game:
vs. South Carolina, W 44-11.

Last Week Rank: 2nd
Projected BCS Bowl: BCS Title / Sugar
More Information: Like Alabama, Florida defense is very strong. They are 4th in the nation at 12.1 PPG allowed on defense. Jeff Driskel struggled the first 6 games. He only had 4 touchdown passes in the first 6 games but this week he had 4 touchdown passes even though we threw for less than 100 yards. This week the a huge win vs. then #7 South Carolina at home winning by 33. They were forcing turnovers all game and scored of them each time. They have another tough test this week play #11 Georgia at home. This game is big if they want to win the SEC East. They also end the season at #14 Florida State. If they can run the table and stay undefeated they will probably have to play Alabama for the right to go to the BCS Title game in the SEC Championship game. My Rank: 2nd
3. Kansas State Wildcats 7-0 (4-0)
Next Game: vs. Texas Tech.
Last Game: @ West Virginia, W 55-14.
Last Week Rank: 4th
Projected BCS Bowl: BCS Title / Fiesta
More Information: Going into this week Kansas State had not looked great but after going to West Virginia and destroying West Virginia  by 41 points. I believe now that Kansas State is a series BCS Title contender. Collin Klein now looks the Heisman front runner with almost 2000 total yards and 24 total touchdowns. They have looked very impressive winning on the road at Oklahoma and West Virginia. They do have a very hard game this week with #14 Texas Tech at home. They still have a hard Big 12 schedule remaining but if they can win out they might have a chance to slip into the BCS Title Game. My Rank: 3rd

4. Oregon Ducks 7-0 (4-0)
Next Game: vs. Colorado.
Last Game: @ Arizona State, W 43-21.
Last Week Rank: 3rd
Projected BCS Bowl: BCS Title / Rose
More Information: Oregon has a great at offense averaging 51.0 PPG which is 2nd in the nation. They should it too in this game scoring all 43 points in the first 19 minutes. Oregon's defense isn't bad either. Marcus Mariota has been a great QB for only being a freshman. Kenjon Barner is 14th in the nation in rushing yards with 870 yards and is 9th in the nation with 12 rushing TDs. The next big game Oregon has is at #9 USC in 2 weeks will be very tough. They also have to play vs. #17 Stanford and at #7 Oregon State to end the season. Oregon has a very week schedule so far which is why they dropped to 4th but in the end I think they will be alright. If they can stay undefeated and win a probable rematch with USC in the Pac-12 Title game, they should play the SEC champion in the BCS Title game. My Rank: 4th

5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish 7-0
Next Game: @ Oklahoma.
Last Game: vs. BYU, W 17-14.
Last Week Rank: 5th
Projected BCS Bowl: Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Notre Dame's defense has looked great. They are second in the nation allowing 9.4 PPG on defense. They have beaten 3 ranked teams and have looked pretty good doing so. They did struggle this week and have for part of the season. Of their 7 wins, 4 wins are by 7 point or less. This week woundn't get any easier. They travel to Oklahoma which will be their biggest game yet. They also end the season at #9 USC. If they can win out they might be able to make the BCS Title Game but it will be hard since they aren't a member of a conference and still have to very hard road games left. If they end the season 11-1 or 10-2, I still think they can make a BCS Bowl since thanks to the "Notre Dame Rule" any independent school which finishes in the top 8 of the BCS gets an automatic spot in a BCS Bowl. They can also receive a bid if they finish in the top 12 or top 16 if they are ranked higher than a automatic qualifying conference champion. Their offense has struggled at times, scoring 20 or less points 5 out of 7 times this year, but I think they are still a very solid team. My Rank: 6th

 6. LSU Tigers 7-1 (3-1)
Next Game: vs. Alabama.
Last Game: @ Texas A&M, W 24-19.

Last Week Rank: 6th
Projected BCS Bowl: Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Like most SEC teams, LSU has a defense which is very strong. They are 10th in the nation at 14.6 PPG allowed on defense. Their QB, Zach Mettenberger, has struggled at times. LSU has struggled a lot during their 4 SEC games. They have won by 2 points, 2 points and 5 points. They also lost to Florida by 8 points. To make things worse their hardest game is next in 2 weeks when they host #1 Alabama. They do have 2 weeks to prepare since this a bye week for them. Then in 3 weeks they also host #11 Mississippi which looks very hard as well. If they can win out and defeat the SEC East Champion to win the SEC they will likely have a great chance to make the BCS Title Game. If they end the season 10-2 only losing to Alabama the rest of the year they will have a good chance to make a BCS Bowl it will just depend on how the other SEC teams finish. My Rank: 5th
7. Oregon State Beavers 6-0 (4-0)

Next Game: @ Washington.
Last Game: vs. Utah, W 21-7.
Last Week Rank: 8th
Projected BCS Bowl: Rose / Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Unlike the most of the other top 10 teams they aren't great at offense or defense. They have allowed very few points this season allowing on average 16.5 PPG which is 17th in the nation. They have the been most unexpected team in the nation this season. They did beat then #13 Wisconsin and at then #19 UCLA which are quality wins. They have to go to #17 Stanford and on November 10th. They also have to play #4 Oregon on November 24th. If they were to keep this great luck going and stay undefeated they wouldn't make up their 1st game of the year vs. Nicholls State scheduled now for the same week as the Pac-12 Title game. If they lose to Oregon going 11-1 is still great and I wouldn't be surprised to see them get invited to a BCS Bowl. My Rank: 8th
8. Oregon State Beavers 5-1 (3-1)

Next Game: vs. Notre Dame.
Last Game: vs. Kansas, W 52-7.
Last Week Rank: 9th
Projected BCS Bowl: Fiesta / Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Oklahoma's offense has been very good averaging 44.7 PPG which is 5th in the nation. They also only allowed 15.3 PPG on defense which is 12th in the nation. They have had 2 very good wins vs. now #14 Texas Tech and then #15 Texas. They did lose to Kansas State earlier in the season which hurts their chance to win the Big 12. Right now Kansas State leads the Big 12 at 4-0 and they are tied with Texas Tech and Oklahoma State for 2nd. They have a very hard game this week. They have to play #5 Notre Dame which will be very hard but I think they will give Notre  Dame their 1st loss of the year. They have a tough schedule left playing even though they only have one ranked team left to play after this week. If they can get help and have Kansas State lose twice and win all their game they might have a outside chance of playing in the BCS Title game. More likely if they win the Big 12 they will play in the Fiesta Bowl or get invited to another BCS bowl with a record of 11-1. My Rank: 7th
9. USC Trojans 5-1 (3-1)
Next Game: @ Arizonia
Last Game: vs. Colorado, W 50-6.
Last Week Rank: 10th
Projected BCS Bowl: Rose / Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: USC has struggled a lot at times. They did beat Colorado by 44 this week by Colorado is a very bad team. They have only played one ranked team which was then #21 Stanford on the road which is their only loss. They have to play #3 Oregon at home on November 3rd and end the season at home vs. #5 Notre Dame. Also if they want to play for the National Championship or even just the Rose Bowl they will have to beat Oregon twice most likely and go undefeated the rest of the way. More likely the end up missing a BCS Bowl with a 10-2 or 9-3 record in my opinion. Matt Barkley has looked very good but not up to the Heisman winner predictions at the beginning of the season. He has almost 1800 passing yards and 22 TDs. USC is a good team just not as good as the other top 10 teams. My Rank: 9th
10. Georgia Bulldogs 6-1 (4-1)
Next Game: vs. Florida
Last Game: @ Kentucky, W 29-24.
Last Week Rank: 11th
Projected BCS Bowl: Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Georgia has struggled quite a bit this season. They barely beat Kentucky by 5 points this week who only has 1 win. They got destroyed by South Carolina by 28 points 2 weeks. Too make things worse they have to play Florida this week. If they want to make a BCS bowl they have to beat Florida and win out to win the SEC East. If they do mange to get to the SEC Title mostly Alabama will be waiting and it will be very hard game. More likely they go 10-2 since they don't any ranked teams to play past this week. They might be able to make a BCS bowl at 10-2 it will depend how the other teams finish.

2012 BCS Rankings Update: Week 8

The first BCS rankings came out Sunday. I will be give my thoughts on the Top 10 teams for every week leading up to the bowl games. I will tell you about their last week performance and the games ahead of them. Also the strengths and weakness I see in each team. No madder how good Ohio State is this year they will not appear in the BCS rankings due to their postseason ban for this season.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide 6-0 (3-0)
Next Game: @ Tennessee.
Last Game: @ Missouri, W 42-10.

Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: BCS Title / Sugar
More Information: Just like last year Alabama's defense is great. They lead the nation at 7.5 PPG allowed on defense. AJ McCarron also has been very solid. After the game next week they have to play 3 straight games vs. currently ranked teams. There biggest game left is at #6 LSU on November 3rd. The last six National Champions have been from the SEC so if they go undefeated or even maybe if they lose once they should see themselves in the BCS Title Game. Alabama became the 4th defending National Champion to be ranked first in the first BCS Rankings of the next year. My Rank: 1st
2. Florida Gators 6-0 (5-0)
Next Game: vs. South Carolina.
Last Game: @ Vanderbilt, W 31-17.

Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: BCS Title / Sugar
More Information: Like Alabama, Florida defense is very strong. They are 6th in the nation at 12.3 PPG allowed on defense. Their QB has been spotty but they have gotten it done so far. They overcame playing then #4 ranked LSU winning by 8. Their next two games are vs. #7 South Carolina and #11 Georgia. They also end the season at #14 Florida State. If they can run the table and stay undefeated they will probably have to play Alabama for the right to go to the BCS Title game in the SEC Championship game. My Rank: 3rd
3. Oregon Ducks 6-0 (3-0)
Next Game: @ Arizona State.
Last Game: vs. Washington, W 52-21.
Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: BCS Title / Rose
More Information: Unlike the top two teams Oregon is great at offense averaging 52.3 PPG good for 2nd in the nation. Oregon's defense isn't bad either. Marcus Mariota has been a great QB for only being a freshman. De'Anthony Thomas is still great coming off a great freshman year and is in the Heisman running. They have a tough test this week but I think Oregon wins handily. The next big game Oregon has is at #10 USC on November 3rd which will be very tough. They also have to play vs. #20 Stanford and at #8 Oregon State to end the season. If they can stay undefeated and win a probable rematch with USC in the Pac-12 Title game, they should play the SEC champion in the BCS Title game. My Rank: 2nd
4. Kansas State Wildcats 6-0 (3-0)
Next Game: @ West Virginia.
Last Game: @ Iowa State, W 27-21.
Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: Fiesta
More Information: Kansas State has looked good and bad this season. They only managed to win by six at Iowa State this week. They did look very impressive going to Oklahoma and winning by 5. They have a very tough schedule the rest of the way. They have to play 4 currently ranked teams. The next game will be very tough when they go to #13West Virginia. Even tough West Virginia just came over a very bad loss to Texas Tech. Then in 2 weeks they have to play #17 Texas Tech. Collin Kelin has looked like a Heisman candidate with almost 1600 total yards and 17 total touchdowns. If they go undefeated they might be able to make the BCS Title Game if some teams lose in front of them. More likely they will win the Big 12 and get the automatic bid to the Fiesta Bowl. My Rank: 6th
5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish 6-0
Next Game: vs. BYU.
Last Game: vs. Stanford, W 20-13, OT.
Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Notre Dame's defense has looked great. They are second in the nation allowing 8.7 PPG on defense. They have been 3 ranked teams and have looked pretty good doing so. They have play #9 Oklahoma on the road in 2 weeks and end the season at #10 USC. If they can win out they might be able to make the BCS Title Game but it will be hard since they aren't a member of a conference. If they end the season 11-1, I still think they can make a BCS Bowl since thanks to the "Notre Dame Rule" any independent school which finishes in the top 8 of the BCS gets an automatic spot in a BCS Bowl. Their offense has struggled at times, scoring 20 or less points 4 out of 6 times this year, but I think they are still a very solid team. My Rank: 4th

6. LSU Tigers 6-1 (2-1)
Next Game: @ Texas A&M.
Last Game: vs. South Carolina, W 23-21.

Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Like most SEC teams, LSU has a defense which is very strong. They are 8th in the nation at 14.0 PPG allowed on defense. Their QB, Zach Mettenberger, has struggled at times. They slipped up at now #2 ranked Florida 2 weeks ago losing by 8. They bounced back this week beating then ranked #3 South Carolina by 2. Besides the last 2 weeks they have had a quite easy schedule. They have the next 3 weeks vs. ranked teams. Their hardest game left vs. #1 Alabama at home on November 3rd.

7. South Carolina Gamecocks 6-1 (4-1)
Next Game: @ Florida.
Last Game: @ LSU, L 21-23.

Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Like most SEC teams, South Carolina has a defense which is very strong. They are 5th in the nation at 12.3 PPG allowed on defense. Marcus Lattimore has bounced back very strong after the injury last season. He has almost 600 yards and 10 TDs. They slipped up at now #6 ranked LSU last week losing by 2. They bounced back this week beating then ranked #3 South Carolina by 2. This week they have to play at #2 Florida. This game will be very hard. South Carolina has had a really easy schedule only playing 2 ranked teams so far. Besides the next week's game they only have to play at #19 Clemson to end the season. If they can win out and defeat the SEC West Champion to win the SEC they will likely have a great chance to make the BCS Title Game. If they end the season 10-2 only losing to Florida the rest of the year they will have a okay chance to make a BCS Bowl it will just depend on how the other SEC teams finish. My Rank: 7th

8. Oregon State Beavers 5-0 (3-0)
Next Game: vs. Utah.
Last Game: @ BYU, W 42-24.
Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: Rose / Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Unlike the most of the other top 10 teams they aren't great at offense or defense. They have been the most lucky and unexpected team in the nation this season. They did beat then #13 Wisconsin and at then #19 UCLA which are quality wins. They have to go to #20 Stanford and on November 10th and play #3 Oregon on November 24th. If they were to keep this great luck going they wouldn't make up their 1st game of the year vs. Nicholls State scheduled now for the same week as the Pac-12 Title game. If they lose to Oregon going 11-1 is still great and I wouldn't be surprised to see them get invited to a BCS Bowl. My Rank: 8th

9. Oregon State Beavers 4-1 (2-1)
Next Game: vs. Kansas.
Last Game: vs. Texas, W 63-21.
Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: Fiesta / Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: Oklahoma's offense has been very good averaging 43.2 PPG which is 9th in the nation. They have had 2 straight good wins vs. now #17 Texas Tech and then #15 Texas. They did lose to Kansas State 3 weeks ago which hurts their chance to win the Big 12. Right now Kansas State leads the Big 12 at 3-0 and the next 5 teams are all tied with 1 loss each. They have a very tough schedule left playing @ #24 Iowa State, #13 West Virginia and #23 TCU. Also in 2 weeks at home vs. #5 Notre Dame. If they can get help and have Kansas State lose twice and win all their game they might have a outside chance of playing in the BCS Title game. More likely if they win the Big 12 they will play in the Fiesta Bowl. My Rank: 9th

10. USC 5-1 (3-1)
Next Game: vs. Colorado.
Last Game: @ Washington, W 24-14.
Last Week Rank: 1st Week of BCS.
Projected BCS Bowl: Rose / Any one besides the Title Game
More Information: USC has struggled a lot at times. They also have only played one ranked team which was then #21 Stanford on the road which is their only loss. He has almost 1500 passing yards and 16 TDs. USC is a good team just not as good as the other top 10 teams. My Rank: 11th

Drew Brees Breaks The NFL Record For Most Consecutive Games With A Passing Touchdown

On Sunday, Drew Brees broke the 52 year old record for most consecutive with a least one touchdown pass. Brees broke Johnny Unitas record of 47 games with his 48th this past Sunday. It toke Unitas almost 4 years to achieve 47 games since back when he played NFL teams only played 12 games per year. Now a days NFL Teams play 16 games a year and Brees 1st game in the streak dates back to the 2009 season. Brees passed for the recording breaking touchdown at 2:58 left in the 1st quarter. The touchdown was a 40 yard touchdown to Devery Henderson. This record just adds to the many great things Brees has done in his career. Last season he broke Dan Marino's record for passing yards at 5084 in 1984. He had 5476 passing yards last season. He is 5 touchdowns passes away from becoming the 7th player all-time with 300 TDs passes. He is only one of 14 players of all-time with 40,000 or more career passing yards. He led the Saints to the Super Bowl in the 2009 season. He helped the Saints beat the Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV and was given Super Bowl MVP. He even holds the top two completion percentage record in one season. He had a 71.2% last season and 70.6% in 2009. Only 3 other players have gotten over 70% in one season. To top it off he has been to 6 Pro Bowls and is a 4-time All-Pro. He is just 33 and I think he has a long time left in his career and he might be able to break some other records in the future. Once he retires he should and waits his 5 years he should get into the Hall of Fame with no problem.

Miguel Cabrera Won the 2012 Ameican League Batting Triple Crown

Miguel Cabrera won the AL Batting Title. This is a amazing feat since last it happen was 1967, 45 years ago. He becomes the first player since Carl Yastrzemski to achieve this feat. This is the the 17th Batting Triple Crown in MLB history. He led the AL in batting average at .330 with HRs at 44 and RBIs at 139. He beat Mike Trout for the Batting Title by .004. He also beat Josh Hamilton by 1 HR and 11 RBIs. He almost won the first MLB Batting Triple Crown. The last player to win the MLB Batting Title was Mickey Mantle in 1956. He led the MLB in HRs and RBIs. Buster Posey led the MLB in Batting Average at .336. Almost everyone thinks Mike Trout or Miguel Cabrera win the AL MVP. I will share my opinion on that in a future post after the awards are announced. He is also 3rd in the AL in wins above replacement at 6.9. Mike Trout led at 10.7 and Robinson Cano is 2nd at 8.2. Cabrera helped the Tigers helped the Tigers win their 2nd straight AL Central Title and 88 wins this season. I have said I wanted to see at least one Batting Triple Crown winner in my lifetime and now it has happened. There still hasn't been a NL Batting Triple Crown in 75 years since Joe Medwick in 1937. It will be interested to see how far the Tigers can make in the playoffs this year. Last season the Tigers feel to the Rangers in the ALCS in 6 games.
